To my understanding, the IWB should be used to bring a
lesson to life; i.e moving away from the abstract. It stimulates meaningful
learning and enables teachers to help demonstrate concepts that will be
difficult to to explain in an abstract manner - that is if used correctly.
However, I have seen evidence that not every lesson require an IWB so teachers
don't have to go planning every lesson to use it. As with each piece of
technology that is brought into the classroom, teachers will have to
familiarize themselves with it in order to use it to its full effect. One
should not see the IWB as just a white board that is used to merely project
presentation but to capitalize on its full potential. As some colleagues have
mentioned, we do not want the IWB to become the new blackboard. This will be
such a waste of money and good resource.
